For the ninth consecutive year, the International Animegaron Composition Competition is organised by Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall within the framework of the Bridges Series, in collaboration with the Animasyros International Animation Festival + Market.

The primary aim of Animegaron is to serve as a platform for showcasing talented composers of music for the moving image, while also fostering communication with audiences and professionals from the performing and audiovisual arts sectors. The consistently strong interest of creators in film music is reflected in the large number of submissions received each year from Greece and abroad.

In the case of animated films — such as this year’s selected short film ROE by Chloe Atzaka, for which participants were invited to compose original music — the scope for creativity is even broader, as animation offers a particularly open field for freedom, imagination and compositional invention.

Inspired by dreams and the subconscious, ROE seeks to capture the irrationality and discontinuity of dreams in relation to the equally irrational nature of reality. In a dreamlike world, a girl sleeps beside a spring where water flows from the mouth of a marble panther. When the water suddenly stops, she awakens, and a luminous sphere appears. She swallows it, triggering a chain of strange events that suggest the same story may endlessly repeat itself. The film’s circular structure mirrors the way experiences and memories recur and transform over time. At the same time, it explores friendship and one’s deeper relationship with oneself.

The film ROE will be presented on Megaron’s social media channels accompanied by the ten best compositions selected by the jury. Five winners will then be announced, receiving three monetary prizes and two special distinctions.

The five distinguished soundtracks will remain available for an extended period on the dedicated permanent platform created on Megaron’s website, as well as on YouTube. In addition, the film featuring the three first-prize-winning soundtracks will be screened at the Animasyros International Animation Festival — ranked among the world’s top 20 film festivals and a major meeting point for contemporary trends in animation, hosting invited directors, producers and critics from around the globe.
